Common symptoms

What are your feet trying to tell you?

Neuropathy and poor circulation are silent enemies. If you spot any of these signs, book an immediate assessment at Multiclínica.

S

Tingling or numbness

Sensation of "needles", burning or total loss of sensitivity to touch, heat or cold. This is a classic sign of neuropathy.

C

Cramps and Pain When Walking

Pain in the legs or feet that worsens when you walk and eases when you stop may indicate poor blood circulation.

P

Dry skin and calluses

Very dry skin, cracks in the heels or persistent corns are dangerous entry points for infections.

!

Wounds that won't heal

Any cut, blister or ulcer that takes a long time to heal is a red flag. It requires urgent specialised intervention.

P

Specialised Podiatry

Chiropody focused on diabetics. Safe treatment of nails, removal of calluses and relief of plantar pressure zones.

E

Wound Nursing

Application of advanced dressings, debridement of devitalised tissues and strict infection control.

M

General and Vascular Medicine

Our doctors monitor diabetes and assess blood circulation to treat the root cause of the problem.

Prevention at Home: The 7 Commandments

Small daily gestures that save your feet. Follow these recommendations strictly.

Daily Inspection

Use a mirror to look at the sole of your foot every day. Look for cuts, blisters or redness that you didn't feel.

Careful hygiene

Wash your feet with lukewarm water (test the temperature with your elbow) and neutral soap. Never use boiling water.

Perfect drying

Dry very well, especially between the fingers. Moisture there creates fungus and dangerous sores.

Smart Moisturising

Apply moisturising cream to the top and sole of the foot, but never between your fingers to avoid maceration.

Nail clipping

Cut your nails straight across. Never cut the corners ("ridges") to avoid ingrown toenails.

Suitable footwear

Wear wide, comfortable shoes without internal seams. Shake the shoe before putting it on to check for stones.

Never walk barefoot

Not at home, not on the beach. Their lack of sensitivity can cause them to step on sharp objects without feeling pain.

Cotton socks

Choose socks made from natural fibres (cotton or wool), without tight elastics or thick seams.

⚠ Important note: Do not use calicides, blades or sharp objects to treat corns at home. Always consult your podiatrist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a diabetic foot consultation include?

Our approach is comprehensive and preventative. The consultation includes:
  • Risk Assessment: Detailed annual examination to classify the degree of risk.
  • Sensitivity tests: Checking the nerve response (neuropathy).
  • Vascular examination: Assessment of peripheral blood circulation (pulses).
  • Podiatry treatment: Safe nail cutting and callus removal.
  • Counselling: Guidance on proper footwear and prevention.
Does it hurt to treat wounds or corns?

No. Most diabetic patients have reduced sensitivity, but even so, our podiatrists use delicate and painless techniques to ensure maximum comfort and safety during the procedure.
How often should I go to the podiatrist?

For diabetics, we recommend an assessment every 3 to 6 months if there are no sores, or immediately if you notice any changes. Regular prevention drastically reduces the risk of serious complications.
